about

When I was a child, the CD shop that I had near home was well stocked, but a lot expensive.
Often therefore when I went to the mall, in an electronics store or in a well-stocked supermarket, I spent a lot of time in the CD department hoping to find some discs at a discounted price, or simply lower than the store near home.
Almost always the offer was simple but exhaustive: they had both the great classics and the most popular albums, sometimes I also found some gems.
MTV was an inexhaustible resource for the discovery of new kind of music, I've spent on it endless afternoons, sometimes even evenings, considering that Brand New was a late night show.
Thanks to the Internet, the possibility of discovering new music has increased considerably, but the offer from other media has fallen hand in hand.
Fallen or changed?
MTV has moved to a broadcasting more focused on reality and junk-tv, the CD stores are less and less, in the mall and in electronics stores the offer is increasingly standardized: less and less classic, but more and more compilations and unofficial collections, the most popular records are a flattened and standardized musical dystopia, the "goodies" are represented by artists who, if they have something to say, is a message of eulogy to the void, but a conscious and bold praise in opposition to the perhaps unconscious void of the most followed singing celebrities.
In all this, there is less and less "solid" music in the spaces of aggregation, and more and more "liquid": songs that can be purchased digitally from various platforms, Spotify playlists all the same and in wire broadcasting between the hallways, or that are shot from an irreverent teenager's smartphone on public transport, hit and throw in the time of advertising to which they are the soundtrack.
Music is no longer an integral part of our concrete, but belongs to an abstract, gaseous, impalpable dimension; music has lost relevance, social, aggregative and recreational, at least for how we tended to interpret it.
But it is also true that those who do not regret the past are heartless, those who want to recreate it today are brainless, tempus fugit.
For me the Vaporwave is a combination of what we have been and what we could have been, but we are still in the middle, stagnant and scared, too far from both the destination and the starting point, in a random spot in the middle of a path from endless and often scary crossroads.
We are here, in a Non-place of the most cryptic and indecodable era of our history, an era of post-truth and compromise, of blocked social lifts and unfulfilled, unsustainable promises.
We are here, to remind us that it has already happened, that it is happening.
And to regret that past, ridiculing it in its excesses, but at the same time trying to save the good that was built, so as to have the basis from which to start.
Thank you all for your support.
