about

Like many millennial kids, my first introduction to music-making was the SNES game Mario Paint on a score notated with toadstools and fireflowers, but it wasn't until Midisoft Studio 4.0 was released for Windows 95 that I became acquainted with real noteheads of the black and stemmed variety. These 24 MIDIs were written in the late 90s on an old Yamaha soundcard. Many of them were conceived of at the dentist. Some stretch the boundaries of listenability. A few are blatant Zappa rip-offs. Clarinets and vibraphones abound. Diminished chords rule. Back when a 30-second song seemed way too long. The early work of a nascent composer is now remastered some twenty-odd years later.
