about

My name is Keenan, and about a decade ago my close friend Justin and I started becoming fans of the vaporwave scene after seeing tantalizing covers spammed all over internet message boards. These objects of comfort and overconsumption drew us in, with the possibility of making something long-lasting out of seeming disposable pop cultural detritus being very alluring. It felt punk rock in a way and like a liberation in the field of sampling: things that were once lame were now cool, justifying many pleasant nap times where “Songbird” was the lullaby. We both went our separate ways and attempted to capture the energy of this new movement.

Now the summer of 2013, I remember the tape-boosted beats of weather forecasts blasting out of my now ancient cellphone; the tinny echoes gnawing their way through the empty and haggard halls of an ex-lover’s house. The slowed-down chants of some far-off place, where warping makes sounds unclear. My friend Justin had worked fast and vigorously making these pieces appear, but one of the things about working fast is that you often overlook what you’ve already accomplished. Life goes on, and the idea of this album falls by the wayside.

With it now being nearly 10 years since the last song featured on this project (and I feeling very nostalgic for that time) I felt like I should help him finally release this project properly. Using my decade of audio engineering skills and the latest available technology, we were able to make it extra crispy, extra reverberant, and fill it with wall-to-wall classic vaporwave goodness. We even refined the elements that made up the original cover into a new collage that better represents the album's mood, though the original cover will be included as a bonus.
